I'm officially an NCSU Alumnus!

4 1/2 years, countless tests and projects and papers, many nights out, numerous football and basketball games, and one graceful fall down the stairs later (more on that in a bit)...I've graduated!! This past weekend was amazing and I am sooo thankful for all of the wonderful friends and family that came in town to celebrate with me! How about a little recap, shall we?

Friday night we kicked off the graduation festivities with a reception with the chancellor for all of the December graduates.

The reception was in the Alumni Center (which is gorgeous!) and we ended up just roaming around for about an hour munching on some snacks and taking tons of pictures.

They had a massive and beautiful tree in the lobby area, so of course we took advantage of that and got some family pictures :)

After the reception we headed back to the house for some pizza, family time, and Skip-Bo!
Saturday morning I was up bright and early for GRADUATION! There were two graduations, the big one for everyone graduating in December (at 9am!), and the smaller one just for the college of management (at 12pm). My friend and I decided to go to both, ya only graduate once...

Both graduations were at the RBC Center since there were so many of us. We waited in one of the service entrance areas, then came out on to the "basketball court/ice rink/seating area" (the RBC Center is where our basketball team plays, where the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team plays, and  - for 2 days of the year - where graduation is...) by going through the locker room area.

This arena is huge! It was kind of cool to see it from a different angle then what I'm used to. The first ceremony was loooong, 2 hours to be exact, and kind of boring...so I ended up talking with the friends that I sat next to and taking pictures throughout most of it.

The smaller ceremony for just the college of management was much shorter!

In this ceremony, we each had our names called and we walked up on stage to get our diplomas! (or fake diplomas anyway...the real one won't come until January...)

Here's where things get really entertaining. But how about we rewind back a bit to the very beginning where we were all waiting to walk into the college of management ceremony. We were lined up alphabetically and I was surrounded by guys, some of whom I'd never seen before! (Not sure how that happens after being at a school with them, in the same major, for 4 1/2 years...) But anyyyywaaay as we were waiting we were joking around about tripping as we walk across the stage and I said "watch, I'll be the one to trip...haha" and the guy behind me said "well, if you fall then I'll fall too and make it more elaborate to take the pressure off of you!" haha...well isn't he funny, thanks man..I'll hold ya to it! So we get out there, we listen to the speakers, then it's our turn to walk up and get our diplomas. Right before we head up there, I say to the guy in front of me... "don't fall!" he laughs and says "I won't..."

Now, here's some easy steps to follow for a good way to be remembered at graduation...

#1 Walk up to the stage

#2 Get your diploma

#3 Act REALLY EXCITED and wave to your family, while showing off the new diploma while walking down the stairs

#4 ...and then BAM! Next thing you know you're falling down the last 4 stairs, thinking to yourself...omgosh, am I really falling at graduation right now?! How cliche of me.

#5 Then you hop back up, fix your cap, try not to cry from laughing so hard, and you're good to go.

#6 But before moving on, you look back to the guy behind you and say "okay, you're turn!" Unfortuatntely he doesn't keep his promise... but it's okay, you're laughing too much at yourself to care.

#7 Then you walk back to your seat, sit down beside your new friend, and he says "I can't believe you actually fell." Me neither, my friend...me neither.

And that, lovely readers, is how falling at graduation is done!

But beware...it can be painful. In fact, you'll probably end up with two nasty looking bruises on your knees from smaking into the railing and your arms will be sore for a few days from clinging on, trying to save your life.

Oh, and if you're really lucky...your uncle will get the whole thing on video. Maybe once he sends that over to me I'll post it on the blog, maybe.

After the ceremony we took tons of family pictures and I said seeeee ya to NC State! Which actually makes me kind of sad now...

That afternoon we had a little party with tons of food, cake, and yummy goodies :)

It was a wonderful Saturday afternoon celebrating with friends and family! That night we continued the celebration and some friends and I went out for drinks and dancing :)

The next morning I was up early for more family time and a mini Christmas! But then everyone left and life returned back to normal... ish.

All in all I had an amazing weekend and I could not be more blessed and thankful for all of the people in my life that have pushed me to do my best, celebrated with me, and been there through everything in between! God has blessed me beyond measure!

And ps...I just have to mention the fact that it is currently 3 days before christmas and 70 degrees here in North Carolina. Sheesh!!

Happy Holidays!

Wednesday: 30 minutes on the elliptical - 1.52 miles. Also did some crunches when I got home and some arm stuff, using candles as weights :)

Saturday: Bike at the gym - 9.22 miles, 40 minutes.
Sunday: 5.01 miles, 51 minutes - outside. It was a super cold and windy morning...but the run went wonderfully :)

...and now you're all caught up!

----------

This past weekend was a wonderful, relaxing weekend :)

Friday night, some friends and I went bowling at a local alley right across the street from NC State. It's so old school that you have to keep track of your own score, that was interesting to figure out ;) but it has a nice little bar too, and bowling + beer = a great combo!

We played a total of 4 games and guess what? I actually won one of them! I may have came in absolute last place in all of the other games...but really, that's not important.

Yes that 82 would be MINE! I guess it's probably pretty sad that that was the highest score, huh?

On Saturday I attempted to sleep in, but instead I woke up at 8:45 and couldn't go back to sleep...of course. That afternoon I headed home to spend some time with the family and decorate the christmas tree! Loooooove putting on some awesome christmas music and decorating :)

Sunday I got some pictures taken of me in my cap and gown and I love how they turned out! I can't believe that in just a few short days I will be GRADUATING from NC State! Just 4 1/2 years ago I found out I was accepted...

and now look at me!

Thanks to Nancy Thomas Photo for the picture!

Gosh I can't wait! It's going to be such a bittersweet weekend filled with so much family and friends :) But first, to survive the week...

Happy Tuesday!

I just need y'all to know...

...that I will be graduating from college in EIGHT days.

WOAH.
Our hearts ever hold you, N...C....Staaaaaate! I've Just been playing that part of our alma mater over and over in my head lately, NCSU will always be in my heart <3

Also, I'm going to the NC State bowl game on December 27th with some amaaazing friends (whom I've missed sooo much!) and I am SO EXCITED YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW.

Charlotte is about to get craaazay with some NC State fans/football players!

Thank you Maryland, for beating the crap of out us in the first half and then allowing us to make that amazing come back to win the game :)

In case you all missed it, here's how things went down: Maryland was destroying us, 41-14 but then we came back in the 2nd half and ended up beating them 56-41 heeelloooooo we are amazing. I mean who else can score 42 unanswered points in a matter of minutes? Clearly we're going to kick some booty in the bowl game.

Oh and can we talk about how much of a beast Ben Roethlisberger is? Maybe that game last night against the Browns wasn't the prettiest of games....but what other QB comes back and plays on an injured foot and proceeds to lead us to victory? He crazaaay.

Annnnd I think that's all I got. Sorry my blog posts have been lacking lately.

Happy Friday,

I'm thankful for...

Hellooooo and happy Wednesday! I only had one class this week and today is the last day of work before Thanksgiving and I am soo excited for this mini-break and some family time :)

So, since it's Thanksgiving and all, how about some things that I've been thankful lately?

I'm thankful for... that AMAZING win by my NC State Wolfpack this weekend!!

I'll be honest, I was expecting us to get completely destroyed by Clemson. After all, they're ranked #7 and had only lost one game...not quite the same for my pack. And after Clemson scored the first 3 points in the very beginning I thought we were doomed. But not at all! By half time we were up 27 to 3. Hellooooo who is this team? We had around 4 or 5 turnovers (I don't know for sure) and ended up beating DESTROYING Clemson 37-13! It was by far one of the best games I've been to :)

Roomie and I love the Wolfpack forever.

I'm thankful for... my amazing friends + Bull City

They know how to represent the Dirty D.

I'm thankful for... CHICKEN AND WAFFLES!!!!!!

Yes, that is a big piece of chicken resting on the most glorious waffle ever. And YES it was the most delicious thing I have ever had in my entire life.

I want to eat it forever. Everyday. All day.

If you live anywhere near Dames Chicken & Waffles then you MUST go right now. I'm serious, get up out of your chair and go. Now. You won't regret it I promise. Oh and get their mac & cheese as a side..it's delicious.

Moving along....

I'm thankful for... Opportunities to be official.

This past Saturday was the Raleigh Christmas Parade and before the parade started Artreach 4 Kids provided some awesome pre-parade entertainment! We all walked around with signs, interacted with kids, drummed, and played with some beach balls and had a blast :)

Once the parade started I had the opportunity to get right up in the action and take some pictures! It was soo much fun but also suuuuper long. Two hours of not being able to use the bathroom when you really have to is kind of hard.

Scotty McCreery made an appearance...

And so did SANTA!

I'm thankful for... precious little kittys that help me procrastinate

Even though recently she's decided that my legs are now something that she can jump on and attempt to play with. Um...no kitty, let's not.

I'm thankful for... GRADUATION! I cannot believe that graduation is only weeks away. The other week I picked up my cap and gown and it all hit me...I'm growing up! I'm so thankful that I was able to go to NC State and get a great education, and now to be graduating with honors is such a blessing!

I'm thankful for... this gorgeous, warm weather that we've been having!

I realize that yes, it's the end of November and that it should probably be cold right now but I do not care one bit! It's warm and sunny and windy and I looooveee it.

I'm thankful for... running and chatting with an amazing friend! God goes some great things :)

and lastly...

I'm thankful for... my wonderful family!

Have a great thanksgiving!

Two posts in one day, whaaaa?

Something really exciting happened tonight that was too great not to share.

I was driving home from taking pictures of the homecoming parade (woohoo go wolfpack!), looking up into the sky when all of a sudden...I see a SHOOTING STAR!!

It looked just like this.

Okay you got me, not really. It was actually more like this...

Source

It literally just looked like this ball of fire (which I guess makes sense cause that's what stars technically are, right?) that just came out of no where and shot across the sky for like a second and then disappeared! I guess I understand why they're called "shooting stars" now...

But I really don't remember ever seeing one before and it was so gorgeous! It made my night :)

And now, it's off to bed (yes, at 10:30pm on a Friday) like a loser so that I can get up at the crack of dawn for some fun Artreach 4 Kids festivities and to take pictures of yet another parade!

Ciao :)

My First Running Injury?

I'm sorry I'm not sorry that the only interesting? thing I can find to blog about is running. But here goes...

On Wednesday I went for a quick little 2 mile run and my left ankle was kind of tight and a little sore. It wasn't enough to make me stop running, I didn't really think it was anything...just that maybe I need to stretch some more and soon it would go away.

Well, it's Friday and IT STILL HURTS.

But it's weird, because it's not like my whole ankle, but instead just the outside of it.

I have awesome Paint skills, I know.

Side note: I just googled "ankle bown" instead of bone. What's wrong with me?!

So I guess it's my Fibula that hurts? Yesterday it was swollen too which was no fun. It's not really that obvious or swollen that much, but you can still kind of tell if you're looking for it. I did ice it when I got home though...so let's hope that helped! I can't really tell if it's swollen today or not. It looks like it is to me, but I'm not sure if that's just my eyes playing tricks on me or not. Plus, have you ever tried to compare your ankle bones? It's hard!

I took a break yesterday from running and today is technically a rest day, so we'll see how tomorrow and Sunday go!

Anyone else have this problem? Or know what could have happened?

In other news... I graduate in just 29 days!! Weird.

Happy FRIDAY!

Training: Week Seven

Another week of training down....woohooo!

Monday: nada

Tuesday: Apparently Tuesday's are just not a good running day for me. Once again, no run.

Wednesday: 3.01 miles - 27 minutes, outside after class. It was a good run, I felt like a beast.

See? Beast mode.

Thursday: 2.02 miles - 18:29 minutes, outside. I think I was actually supposed to do 2 1/2 miles today, but I was kind of pressed for time and just feeling overall blaaah. Plus, it was sprinkling and cold and my right calf muscle was hurting me pretty bad for some reason. I'm thinking I haven't been stretching enough? It continued to hurt after my run too...

Friday: rest day

Saturday: 32 mins of cross training (1.24 miles on the elliptical thing). I went to my apartment gym and was the only one there (score!) so I turned on the TV to find HP on. I was entertained and because of it I even decided to do some weights. Did some arm stuff, leg stuff, and ab stuff. My arms hate me now.

Sunday: 4.04 miles - 40:15 mins. Eeeeehhh run was okay. It was GORGEOUS outside (I'm loving this weather in the 60's and 70's, eeeek!) which made the run nice, but I think I'm still not stretching as much as I should after running slash in general. My right calf was still pretty tight and sore, and about 2 1/2 miles in my right foot started to go numb, waaaah. I stopped to stretch a few times before that, but still numbness. I toughed it out though and just ran through it, and eventually it went away a bit and it wasn't so bad, but my calf was still hurting. It still hurt after the run too so I tried to ice it some. Unfortunately it's still kind of tight now... maybe I just need to do more stretching?

Overall, not a bad week. This week my goal is to actually run on Tuesday! No more of this work out 4 times a week when I should be doing 5!!

In other news, today is National Guac Day, according to the NCSU Dining facebook page, so go make (or buy if you're lazy like me) yourself some yummy guacamole and chips and PIG OUT!!

Happy rest day! :)
