Training Update: Week 21

Apparently my blog posts have become something of a pattern...how exciting. I promise I will have a new post tomorrow, totally unrelated to training and things that I love on Wednesdays :) But for now... week 21!

Can you believe that it's already been 21 weeks? There are only 4 more weeks til my half, I'm so stoked!!

Monday: Nada, rest day of course :)

Tuesday: 4.68 miles, 47ish minutes. Run went okay this afternoon. Stopped 4 times for stop lights, and once to stretch which ate up some time. My calves and ankles were also pretty tight and sore, and my right foot went numb for a little bit. Blaaaah!

Wednesday: Tennis! It was a gorgeous day and my friend and I decided that we had to do something outside, so we decided to play some tennis. After we hit the ball around for 30 minutes or so, our other friend came out to join us and we all ended up playing for another hour or so. Forgot how much I love tennis!

Thursday: Didn't run or anything today, but I think being on your feet for 10+ hours (5 of those hours in heels) should count for something. More on this tomorrow, but here's a sneak peek...

Friday: I did Yoga Flow this morning at work and it was a bit more difficult than the yoga I normally do. It's a bit harder, with more difficult stretches and more strength stuff, but I liked it! Ran in the afternoon with a friend - 3.51 miles, 33 minutes. There were lots of hills, and not even steep but just long! I was exhausted.

Saturday: I did this cardio workout video twice, and then decided to do level 1 of the 30 day shred. Oh so fun.

Sunday: 8.01 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes. Another 8 miles done...it feels good! I woke up really sore from the workouts I did on Saturday, so it was kind of hard to get going with the run, but things gradually got better. Of course now I'm super sore..

So there we go, another week done!

And this week I have the Krispy Kreme Challenge to look forward to this weekend! That should be interesting...

Happy Monday,

What I'm Loving Wednesday

This time it's actually posted on Wednesday, bonus points for me! I promise that my blog posts will not only be training updates and WILW, even if that's what the past few weeks look like.

I'm loving...silly mirror pictures with brother in the middle of a sporting goods store.

He just got a new iPhone and I swear he's learned more about that thing in the month that he's had it then I have in the 8 months that I've had mine...

I'm loving...this new fun way to paint your nails!

I went over to my friends house last week and she taught me this neat new way to paint your nails. You drop the nail polish into a glass of water...and once it looks like how it is above, you can create a cool design in it and then dip your finger in!

This was my first time playing with it, so I'm by no means a pro and my design isn't even all that cool...but I think it's so neat how it works! I'll definitely be experimenting more with different designs and colors.

I'm loving...cuddly kittys!

Lately this little furball has been extra cuddly whenever I'm sitting on the couch. One night, she just snuggled herself in the nook of my arm and fell asleep...it was kind of precious :)

I'm loving...that the Artreach 4 Kids Gala and Photo Exhibition is only ONE day away!!

We've been doing lots of arts and crafts to get ready for this shindig and I'm so excited that it's almost here!

It's not too late to get tickets! You can purchase your tickets today online until 5pm or tomorrow at the door too so we hope to see you there :) More info here: artreach4kids.org

I'm loving...my new photography blog slash website that is basically up and running! I just need to fill all the tabs with pictures and I'll be good to go, check it out!

and lastly, I'm loving...this goooorgeous weather that has decided to show up!

It was the perfect day for a picnic outside with my mom :) We wondered around the arboretum near campus and even walked on water...

Yeah that was lame, I know.

Happy Wednesday lovelies! Make it a good one :)

Training Update: Week 20

We can just skip over week 19, nothing too exciting anyway! This week however was a pretty successful running week...

Monday: Rest day!

Tuesday: 3.80 miles, 43ish minutes. Not the best of runs. It was raining during my run and I just felt off for most of it. My ankles/shins also really hurt, and at around 3.5 miles my right foot went numb, so I walked the last .20 miles. It was a pretty discouraging run, especially because I was supposed to do 4.50 miles.

Wednesday: 2.51 miles, 24ish minutes. Run went a little better today!

Thursday: 4.50 miles, 43ish minutes. And today my run was much better! I went in the afternoon with a friend and didn't use music and ran faster than normal. :)

Friday: Rest

Saturday: Really should have rode the bike or something...but I didn't. Whoooops.

Sunday: 8.01 miles, 1 hour and 17 minutes. Amazing run this morning! Went around 9:30am and it was 33ish degrees outside and rainy. It didn't really bother me that much though...I think I actually enjoy running in the cold. I was only supposed to go 7 miles today, but the way that I normally run was blocked off, so I ended up going a little farther and just decided to go the extra mile...and it went great! Didn't stop once - except for a few seconds at stop lights ;)

Just a little over a month until the half marathon and I'm getting SO excited!

And just because I've seen this floating around the blog world and it's just too good and true to not share...

That's all :) I promise to have a more exciting post - complete with tons of pictures - soon!

Happy Monday!

What I'm Loving Thursday?

I've seen a lot of bloggers do a "What I'm Loving Wednesday" post on Wednesday's and I've never participated...but I'm feeling very lovey towards things lately, so I figure why not?! Except I realize that it's Thursday now... so I guess it's more of a "What I'm loving Thursday." It still works, right?

#1 I'm loving that I got to spend some time with my little brother this past weekend for his 20th birthday! Gosh, I can't believe he's that old already.

#2 I'm loving my new, amazing pajama pants. Seriously they are SO comfortable and soft and they're NC State so really...why would I ever want to take them off?

#3 I'm loving doing this 365 project. In case you missed this post, you should probably go read it and then just hop on over to the website and check it out yourself...

#4 I'm loving new music, especially by The Michael Gungor Band. This has grown to be one of my favorite songs after hearing it in church on Sunday...

#5 I'm loving that my DIPLOMA has officially shipped! Can't wait to have it in my hands so that graduation is that much more official! :)

#6 Speaking of graduation...I'm loving that my graudation trip with my mom is finally coming together! No details yet though, I don't want to jinx it ;)

#7 I'm loving deliciously good (and horribly bad for you) cupcakes!

#8 I'm loving how God shows himself to me

#9 and lastly, I'm LOVING that it's almost Friday!!

Have a happy day,
B.Hines

And just a friendly reminder, all photos were taken by me so pleaseee don't steal any, thanks! :)

Training Update: Week 18

I have been so horrible at keeping my blog updated with my training lately. I just finished up week 18 but haven't actually posted a training update since week 11. Whoooops. No need to fill you in on all those weeks in between though...especially the weeks around Christmas. I may or may not have been a big, fat, slacker.

This week on the other hand, I whipped my butt back into shape!

Monday: Nada!

Tuesday: Did yoga at work during lunch...that was interesting. It was a 50 minute long class filled with lots of stretching, which is exactly what I needed. I think I just enjoy the type of work outs where I sweat. Went running that afternoon outside and it was an amazing run! 4.01 miles - 41ish minutes. Went throughout the trails at work at around 4:30pm and even though it was around 30* with a wind chill of 20* I still felt great, maybe it was the yoga!

This is how pretty I look after running in the cold.

So thankful for warm gloves!!

Wednesday: Today during lunch I tried a "back to the core + stretching" class. It was straight abs for 30 minutes then stretching for the last 15. After it I went for a quick run outside, 2 miles - 18ish minutes. My legs were TIRED. I walked back up the 7 flights of stairs to my office and I thought I was going to die.

Thursday: 4.01 miles outside, 40:32 minutes. My run went pretty good. I woke up super sore from all that hard core working out on Wednesday, but it wasn't too bad while running. I went along the trails at SAS and came across ten deer and the most gorgeous sunset ever...it was amazing! The only bad thing was that I didn't have any type of camera with me, still kicking myself for that...

Friday: Rest :)

Saturday: Cross training day! 38 minutes on the bike at the gym - 9 miles. I wish I could run 9 miles in 38 minutes!

Sunday: I had such an amazing run yesterday morning! I went at around 9am and ran outside and it was gorgeous! Not hot but not cold...it was perfect. Did 6.01 miles in 57:43 minutes and felt GREAT! Also, my time was better than it normally is...and I even stopped for a few seconds to wait for the light to turn green ;) I definitely could have kept running - it was a great run!

-------------------------

In other unrelated news, Tim Tebow ripped out my heart last night and stomped all over it.

For more on how I feel about that whole subject, hop on over to Lauren's blog. She took the words right out of my mouth and could not have said better what I was feeling!

And now we're done. No need to dwell on that anymore.

Happy(?) Monday!

365 Days

It's January 5, 2012 and so far I have made no mention to the New Year on this blog. It doesn't even really feel like the new year to me and I didn't do much to celebrate sooo it's kind of slipped my mind!

But, I do have a new years resolution...kind of.

I've decided to start a 365 day project where I take a picture of something every single day for a year. I love photography and I wanted to start this project as a way to keep me thinking creatively and to encourage myself to take more pictures just for fun.

In order for me to also learn from this project, each month I will have a different theme to focus on...

January - Color
February - Tonal Contrast
March- Triangles
April - Negative Space
May - Mood
June - Low Light
July - Balance
August - Tension
September - Frames
October - Color in Black and White or Black and White
November - Chiaroscuro
December - Reflections

This idea came from this website, check it out.

So far I've been great at keeping up with this project - although maybe not the themes. I found a really awesome site online that gives you a place to upload your pictures each day, and even make comments about each one. It's 365project.org and it's awesome! It definitely helps keep me accountable, knowing that I need to take and upload a picture every day.

If you love taking pictures and want to continue to learn more about photography then I suggest you start your own 365 project! I'm excited to keep taking pictures and see what I end up with :) Also...if you start your own on this site than be sure to find me and add me or follow me or whatever it's called!

Happy New Years :)

Belk Bowl 2011

A week ago my lovely NC State football team played in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte against Louisville and as I previously mentioned, it was aahhhhmazing! Let's start from the beginning...

Warning: this post will have way too many pictures. but really, who's surprised?

Last year, NC State made it to a bowl game for the first time in my college career, so three friends and I traveled down to Orlando for the Champs Sports Bowl to watch our beloved team kick some booty. It was so much fun and we even went to Disney afterwards to celebrate! Well, since our boys made it to yet another bowl game, we decided that we needed to continue the tradition. Lucky for us, the bowl game was in Charlotte where one of my friends lives, so we all got to stay with her for the night and the drive wasn't bad at all!

So Tuesday morning came and I packed up my stuff, filled my car to the brim with tailgating supplies, put on my NC State flags, and hit the road! For the majority of the 3 hour drive it was raining and nasty, which was really not fun, but then it finally cleared up and I saw some blue skies!

I know, I shouldn't have been taking a picture while driving...

Fortunately the gorgeous weather stayed for the rest of the drive and for the whole day, which was a very good thing seeing as how it was extremely windy and cold so rain would have just made it miserable.

About 30 minutes away from my friends house I hit a ton of game traffic and ended up being stuck in it for another hour or so. Not only was I ansy and ready to get there, but I also had to really use the bathroom, so it was a fun 13 miles. Lucky for me I had some entertainment during that time. There were lots of NC State fans (duh) on the road and there was this one NCSU RV that I kept passing. Well, there was one guy in that RV that looked to be around my age (maybe younger? I'm not sure...) that attempted to communicate with me while in traffic and even ended up writing his number on a napkin and holding it up for me. Unfortunately I was on the phone when he did that and had nothing to write down his number with, rats! But oh how flattering it is to be hit on while in traffic...

So anyway...we all arrived to my friends house, hit the grocery store for some tailgating essentials (food and beer of course), and finally made it to our parking spot!

It was only like 4:30 by that point, so we still had a good 3 1/2 hours til the game started. We set up our chairs, got out the food and drinks, and began to set up the grill (yes... a grill!).

How do you turn this thing on???

I decided that I wanted this to be a legit tailgate, complete with grilling out our own food, so my step dad lent me one of his grills and taught me how to use it. Maybe it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but it really is. I've never grilled anything - in fact, I can't even really cook! But let me tell you...those burgers I made were some of the best burgers ever. At least, that's what my friends say and I hope they wouldn't lie?

After we were there for a bit my little brother and his girlfriend(?) stopped by to say hey for a bit which made me so happy! I love hanging out with my brother...and meeting his lady friends. Apparently my brother has been wearing blue lipstick again though. I keep telling him that it's not a good look for him but he won't listen...

The rest of our tailgating time was spent taking way too many pictures, eating, meeting up with more friends, drinking, and being just plain crazy/silly/weird/giggly/younameit.

Oh Lauren and her many cups...

At around 7:30ish(? to be honest I had very little sense of time...) we decided it was a good idea to make our way over to the stadium with all of the other massive amounts of people. After quite the adventure we finally made it to our seats up in the sky.

...and then it was GAME TIME!!

But I need to be honest, for one of the first times ever in a football game, I wasn't really paying attention. We were up way high, I was surrounded by some of my best friends, we couldn't really hear the band because we were so far away from them (in fact, I don't think I sang the fight song once in that game...how does that happen??) and we were all just in our own little land of happiness that we were more focused on each other than the game. That's not to say that I didn't love every minute of it though, and don't worry I cheered and paid attention to the big, exciting stuff...like our interceptions and touchdowns! :)

Side note: it's super hard to get a clear picture of a touchdown from miles away when everyone around you (yourself included) is jumping up and down in excitement.

Although I may not have been totally in tune to the majority of the game I was all eyes and ears during the last few minutes. We were winning, but Louisville had a chance to come back with only a few seconds left and I'll go ahead and say it: I was terrified! Buuuuut, our defensive was on FIRE and we intercepted the ball with only 41 seconds left to seal our victory, 31 - 24. Cue the fireworks.

We all jumped up and down and rejoiced and screamed and sang the Alma mater and were incredibly happy.

The whole gang!

It was a happy night indeed. But the fun doesn't end there...

In downtown Charlotte, across from our parking lot, there is this really awesome, huge ornament just planted in the middle of the sidewalk.

And because we are a creative bunch, we decided that we needed pictures with this ornament. This resulted in by far some of the best pictures of the night.

I promise you we were sober.

And this is where our night ended. We drove back to my friends house, paaaassed out, and then woke up the next day to sadly go our separate ways. But a week later I am still laughing at all of the wonderfulness that was this night :) Love love love those friends so much!!

By the way... in case you didn't notice it, there is now a helpful button on the side of this blog where you can LIKE Brittany Hines Photography, so you should probably go do that right now. :)

Happy Wednesday!
